Counting in Japanese: Numbers 0-10
(Once you have one through ten in the Sino-Japanese system, building larger numbers becomes mechanical.
Japanese counts using a base-ten system, but with a logic that differs from English in one important way: instead of having separate words for “twenty,” “thirty,” and “forty,” Japanese builds them as “two-ten,” “three-ten,” “four-ten.”)
